Marcellus Shale Documentary Screenings to be Held in Pennsylvania
“Gasland,” a documentary about gas drilling in the Marcellus shale region will soon be offered throughout Pennsylvania and New York. Written by Josh Fox, a Pennyslvania resident who is asked to lease his property for drilling, the documentary follows him on a cross-country odyssey in a quest for answers on the safety of fracking.
According to Gasland promoters, the movie is “becoming a popular method for spreading public awareness about gas drilling and the risks it poses on human and environmental health.” Their Facebook page has 22,219 followers and lists all events associated with the film.
The schedule includes “massive outdoor screening/rallies” with Rooftop Films in both New York and Pennsylvania in the end of August and in Early September. Pennsylvania screenings will be held in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Syracuse and Philadelphia.
The industry believes the movie is propaganda and has refuted the documentary. An advocacy group of America’s natural gas and oil producers, Energy-in-Depth, detailed what they believe are inaccuracies  in the movie through the document “Debunking Gasland.” “Affirming Gasland” has now been written by the producers of the documentary defending the information and refuting the Debunking document.
GASLAND will be broadcast on HBO through 2012.
