Doctor Could Lose License After Multiple Patient Deaths
A Virginia Beach, Va. doctor faces a hearing this week before the Virginia Board of Medicine — which suspended his license in August — to decide if he will be able to keep practicing medicine.
According to The Virginian Pilot, Dr. Stephen Plotnick is known for his aggressive treatment of fibromyalgia by using powerful narcotics. At least five of his patients have died of overdoses while others were hospitalized for severe depression and addictive symptoms. Dr. Plotnick has been named as the defendant in six malpractice suits. One of the cases has been settled.
Medical malpractice occurs when health care professionals make a mistake that harms the patient they are supposed to help. Medical malpractice can be devastating emotionally and cause life-altering injuries that are expensive for the victims and their families. Medical malpractice is a politically charged issue, which has led to an extremely complex set of state laws governing malpractice lawsuits. It is important to speak with an experienced firm if you or someone you care about has been injured by the carelessness of a medical professional.

Lawyers Group Asks New Administration To Limit Preemption Regulations
The American Association for Justice, a trial lawyers group, has asked the Obama administration to reverse Bush-era regulations that “preempted” the right of U.S. to hold wrongdoers accountable through the civil justice system.
“AAJ has outlined five key steps that will restore the traditional balance between federal regulation and state-based consumer protections and ensure injured Americans have access to the courts when injured by negligence or misconduct,” according to a press release on the AAJ site.
Said AAJ Senior Vice President for Public Affairs Linda Lipsen, “The efforts to give negligent corporations complete immunity, escape accountability, and leave Americans without any recourse has gone too far and must be reversed.”
At the Munley, Munley & Cartwright Law Firm in Pennsylvania, we believe those who cause personal injuries must be held accountable. We believe the rights of victims deserve protection. Second, a study in the Journal of the American Dental Association suggested that osteonecrosis of the jaw, or death of the jawbone, may be more common than previously believed among people taking osteoporosis drugs in the same class as Fosamax.
